about

I performed music publicly for the first time sometime during 1987 or 1988. The exact time is lost to the ages. I coaxed my brother and at least one other member of our church's youth group to learn a version of "London" by this band called "The Smiths", whom I had just discovered via a friend who worked with me at a local grocery store. He let me borrow "Louder Than Bombs", Morrissey's "Viva Hate" and The Church's "Starfish" album. All three proved to be remarkably influential in my life eventually. I grew to love The Smiths and "Louder Than Bombs", and "London" was easily my favorite track on the record at that time, though I'm not sure why.

In any case, we learned the song in order to play it at a youth group talent show. We used an old electronic church organ (complete with its own 'rhythm section'), a guitar (plugged into a little Gorilla amp) and a bass. I am not altogether sure who sang the song. We were well received by the youth group.

Now, twenty-five years later, I'm finally getting around to offering my own version of this great little tune.

This track is a "single" from "1987" by Champion Leader, and is meant as a companion piece to my cover version of "Chrysanthemums", which was written by my brother, D.E. Lee Bozeman, under the moniker Orient Is His Name.

Both "London" and "Chrysanthemums" are tracks that will be a part of the upcoming Champion Leader full-length album, "1987" (street date: 11/04/13)
